Teaching Post - Job Application Form
St Piran's School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening including checks with current and/or previous employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service
If you are short-listed for interview you will be required to complete a self-declaration of your criminal record or information that would make you unsuitable for working with children.
Please note that it is an offence under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 to apply for the role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
All roles at St Piran's constitute regulated activity and all posts are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
Thank you for your interest in joining the team at St Piran’s. In order to assist both you and us in the recruitment process please ensure that you read the following documents which are available on the Vacancies and Policies pages of our website:
- Relevant Job Description with Person Specification (website)
- Recruitment and Selection Policy (Policies | St Piran's School | St Pirans)
- Safeguarding Policy (Policies | St Piran's School | St Pirans)
All applicants will be short-listed based on the information provided on this form. CVs can be included as an addition to your application but not in place of the application form or any section of it.
If you are not currently employed or not working as a teacher or early Years Practitioner, please give details of your most recent teaching/classroom appointment.
Please supply a full
history in chronological order (with start and end dates - Month and Year) of all employment, self-employment and any periods of
unemployment since leaving full time education.
You must provide, where
appropriate, explanations for any periods not in employment, self-employment or
further education/training and in each case reasons for leaving employment.
Education and Academic Qualifications
Please list below, in the relevant sections, all the
establishments you have attended and any qualifications you have gained there.
Please explain, drawing upon your skills, abilities, experience and knowledge, how you fulfil the requirements set out in the job description. Please demonstrate, using examples, your suitability for the position, how you will develop the role and what personal qualities you will bring to the School.
Please provide the names and contact details of at least two referees who can comment on your suitability for the role. One of these must be your current or most recent employer.
Note: if you are not currently working with children but have done so in the past, the second referee must be the employer by whom you were most recently employed in work with children.
These referees will be contacted if you are short-listed for the post, and we would seek a reference before interview.
If you are appointed, you will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Having a criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from taking up appointment; it will depend on the nature of the offences and their relevance to the post you are applying for. However, should you NOT declare an unprotected offence that is subsequently revealed, e.g. through the DBS check, then this may place your appointment in jeopardy, or once employed, may lead to your summary dismissal.
Health - should your application be successful and you are offered the position, you will be asked to provide information relating to your health or to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo a medical examination.
Data Protection - The personal information collected on this form will be
used for the purposes of recruitment and selection for the role you have
applied for, or other roles you may be suitable for within the School. If
appointed, this form will form part of your employment record. The School’s policy on retention of information is that all recruitment
records are destroyed six months after the closing date for positions (except
for information on successful applicants).
We may check the information collected with third parties or with other information held by us. We may also use or pass to certain third parties information to prevent or detect crime, to protect public funds, or in other ways as permitted by law.
In accordance with the requirements of the Immigration,
Asylum and Nationality Act 2006, any offers of employment will be subject to
the production of a valid Passport or Birth Certificate and formal confirmation
of your National Insurance number.
By signing this application form you agree to the processing of your personal data (including sensitive personal data) as described above, in line with the School's Privacy Notices and in accordance with our registration with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
